I'm Stephen Godfrey. Currently I build websites and webapps for my clients. I run my own company, and I am a successful consultant and developer. But how did I get here?

Here is my story:

About five years ago I was working at a startup as a DevOps engineer and things were good. But, sadly, it ran out of money and everyone but two people got fired--the owner and the CTO.

That happens in tech and it was one of the best things to happen to me. I didn't take it personal, but I did start looking for work. Plain old employee work. But then I realized that I didn't want to work for the man. Right at that moment I had a potential client ask me to scope out an MVP for a project. I told him that I could do it and asked for a check. Once I held that check in my hands I knew I had to deliver, and deliver I did. The client was happy, and I did freelance development-work for them for 2 years.

I picked up more and more clients. Finished some projects, passed some others on to Junior Developers, and here I am today. A succesful consultant. I work from home, and sometimes I'll have bread rising on the counter while I'm coding in the office. It's a pretty sweet gig. I usually get about 2-3 pitches from recruiter a day, so I like to think I have skills that are in demand.
